Cortina d'Ampezzo sits in the heart of the Veneto Dolomites, in an ample valley surrounded by high peaks, and is one of the most famous mountain localities in the world. Host of the 1956 Winter Olympic Games and defined solely in the terms of chic and ski, Cortina is a glitzy, glam symbol both on the Italian and international scenes; Cortina has always been a top destination for mountain and nature enthusiasts, as well as those in search of winter sport activity and, in general, fun.  Nestled in a large basin of green fields and woods, the “Queen of the Dolomites” is circumscribed by the very high mountains that are rendered absolutely unique by the rose tones of the rocks of Antelao, Sorapiss.

The Croda da Lago, Croda Rossa, the Tofane and the Cristallo - all-mountain groups of rare beauty. Just as stupendous is the natural wall of Pomagagnon, also a backdrop to the aforementioned groups.

With its 87 miles of ski slopes, Cortina makes up part of the Dolomiti Superski circuit (one ski pass to access 12 different ski zones covering 758 miles of slope, making it the largest complex of ski courses in the world); its principal ski areas are Faloria, Cristallo, Pocol-Tofana and Cinque Torri.

Among the most exciting itineraries in the Cortina district are those slopes comprised by themes, such as the Skitour Olympia, where Olympic races were held in 1956; and the Great War Tour, whose courses pass by trenches and posts built during World War I. To explore even further the enchantment of these snow-covered mountains, the more adventurous can take an excursion in snow shoes, or try out the cross-country ski slopes.

Even in summer, Cortina offers multiple opportunities for relaxation, athletics and fun: the advantage of 186 miles of pathways means the possible itineraries are countless. For the most advanced, a via ferrata, or iron road, permits climb to the most beautiful and panoramic mountain peaks. And, as far as summer sports go – choices include golf, horseback riding, mountain biking, and of course, mountain climbing. In need of a little more speed? Not to be forgotten are the rafting, kayaking, canoeing and even bobsledding options.

Not only skiing and summer sports: in Cortina are about 250 shops where shoppers can find Italian high fashion and the best of Made in Italy, in addition to local artisan goods, art, jewellery and antiques. Corso Italia, Cortina’s thriving centre, is one of the best-known shopping streets on the Peninsula, always teeming with tourists admiring the shop windows, and abounding with the cafes and trendy locales that line the Corso.

The 20th Century left indelible marks on the history of this zone: the open-air museum (under the Cinque Torri) that treats WWI is a must, as is an excursion to the Natural Park of the d’Ampezzo Dolomites, where visitors can admire nature in its purest form by way of eight vie ferrate and six other equipped trails; eleven mountain refuges scattered throughout the park and just outside also welcome trekkers.

The area’s cuisine is highly influenced by the Tyrolean tradition, and in fact, many of the typical dishes are still called by their original German names. The most celebrated are the canederli (a variant of the Tyrolean knödel), a sort of large dumpling primarily made with dried bread crumbs; and the casunziei, triangular ravioli filled with red turnips or potatoes and flavoured with hot butter and poppy seeds.

Milan
Today's Highlights

Time to explore and window-shop, around this glissening metropoli.

Besides being  such an attractive place nowadays, its history goes much further back than 200 B.C. when ancient Roman settlements were present and later, throughout the centuries, Milan was fought over by many powerful invaders, but it always emerged as a alluring commercial trading place, multiplying itself throughout the years, to reach today’s immense fortunes handed down from centuries of Art and Culture.

Our VOUCHER has lots of suggestions too that will point you in the right direction of things you wish to see and do.

Some suggestions for your FREE TIME:

Take a pleasant walk around the center of Milan, through history, art, anecdotes and curiosities, enjoying the atmosphere of this dynamic and modern city! Visiting some of the highlights and famous attractions of Milan at your own pace you can satisfy your curiosities and certainly satisfy any “Shopping Wish List” you may have prepared, there is so much variety here we are sure it will meet with  your expectations

Some of the things you could see are the  world famous Gothic Cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, buzzing with fashionable, luxury boutiques and restaurants, cafés, where you could enjoy an ‘aperitivo’ while people watching.

Other highlights include the Sforza Castle, built initially for defensive purposes, then later becoming a beautiful residence decorated by Leonardo and Bramante. Then, passing through Via Dante, one of the most important pedestrian shopping area in Milan, you get to Piazza dei Mercanti, where you will sense the quiet atmosphere of the Medieval city.  Milan is also of course home to the famous Scala Theatre.

A visit to Milan’s most famous mural: Leonardo Da Vinci’s “Last Supperwhich is hidden away on a wall of the refectory adjoining the Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie could be arranged for you if there is more time, as this is not centrally located, by booking Skip-the-Line tickets for you, which must be pre-booked well in advance, according to your Flight arrival.

You could also choose to do this on your last day before your flight Home.

DAY 3 – Ski Day

Place visiting
Skiing on one of the best European ski areas
Today's Highlights

After breakfast at your Hotel, it will be time to take in more of the breath-taking scenic views you have been admiring from your Hotel so far, from one of the wonderful ski areas...

The slopes have many different gradients fit for all levels of ability :

  • Piste gradients are, Blue: 30, Red:60, Black:10 %

from the infamous spectacular black diamond run of Forcella Rossa - decidedly for the experts only - it regularly hosts the Women’s World Cup and is typically whitewashed in deep powder, set beneath the Tofane Range and cutting through an opening in the mountain rock that reveals views of Cortina. (The setting was center stage in the Bond film For Your Eyes Only; and though those using it won’t likely be pursued by Russian agents, these moguls will test anyones nerves).

But that is just one of literally hundreds of slopes in the Cortina region, certainly there is something for everyone.      You can take full advantage, with a Dolomiti Superski pass, which is valid on 450 lifts.

After a wonderful day, if your camera has not gone into over-ride, you will have lots of places to check out, even in town, especially now you are understanding the different places with lots of hidden treasures.

Our VOUCHER will come to your aid as it has lots of suggestions too that will point you in the right direction of things you wish to see, do and of course…: Taste!!
