Activities

Picture of MULLINEUX & LEEU FAMILY WINES

MULLINEUX & LEEU FAMILY WINES

Family Wines

Leeu Estates encompasses an exclusive boutique hotel, winery and wellness spa set among vineyards, gardens and fynbos in the scenic Franschhoek valley, minutes away from the village of Franschhoek and just under an hour’s drive to Cape Town. We invite you to explore what this elegant and private hideaway has to offer.

By 2016, Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines had notched up no less the 18 five-star ratings from Platter’s South African Wine Guide since their first release in 2008 and was also named the wine guide’s Winery of the Year in 2014 and 2016. Wine Enthusiast, the prestigious US magazine, named Andrea its 2016 Winemaker of the Year.

The Mullineuxs follow a reasoned approach to farming in all their vineyards and endeavour to be as natural and organic as possible. Some of the vineyards are certified organic. The vineyards are expertly managed by Chris.

Chris and Andrea’s aim is to bottle wines that are a true expression of terroir, from grapes best suited to the particular site’s conditions. Each step in Andrea's meticulous winemaking process is taken keeping this objective top of mind. Grapes are hand-picked and the approach to winemaking is minimalist – no yeasts, acids, tannins, enzymes or filtering agents are added.

Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines’ two portfolios have two distinct stories to tell. The Swartland portfolio encompasses the Signature, Terroir Specific and Kloof Street ranges and the Leeu Passant range is made in Franschhoek from grapes sourced from a variety of regions outside the Swartland.

Linthwaite House is situated on a hilltop overlooking Windermere, making it the perfect base from which to explore the scenic surroundings. There is plenty for guests to do around Linthwaite’s beautiful grounds. Try your hand at a game of boules on our pitch or an eye-catching giant outdoor chessboard invites you to play a game. Take a stroll along our walking trails while admiring the local fauna, flora and sculptures, or go for a cycle and explore the ‘chocolate-box’ village of Bowness-on-Windermere. There are two row boats available on our tarn and, if you’re a keen angler, there is also fly fishing available. Alternatively, after a day of exploring The Lakes, why not book an in-room massage to relax those tired muscles.
