Madi

Madi’ (meaning Manta Ray in the local Dhivehi language) takes its inspiration from the region’s fresh, tropical produce and abundant seafood.

The food is light and full of flavour. The menu boasts a range of local, Mediterranean and international dishes served throughout the day, from breakfast to late evening.

Madi also holds three themed nights each week. There’s the 'Taste of Indian Ocean' night on Monday, with traditional Maldivian Boduberu dancing and drumming. On Wednesday night the 'Flavours of the East' explores the area's characteristic sweet, sour hot and salty flavours. The week ends with a seafood barbeque on Friday night, dining beneath the stars to the sound of live music from local musicians.

Tai

‘Tai’ (Japanese for red snapper), which is a celebratory fish in Japanese culture, showcases sustainable caught seafood from the Indian Ocean. There is also a cocktail bar offering stunning views of the Maldivian sunset. Tai is open six days a week except Fridays, when a seafood BBQ is offered on the beach between Madi and Thila.

Thila

Thila is named after rock formations in the Maldives that are covered with abundant marine life. As a place to congregate, it inspires our informal Maldives restaurant and pool bar where guests can come to chill out. Food at Thila is easygoing and family-friendly, with salads, freshly cooked seafood and pizzas. Laid-back music, pool tables and an open-air pool bar with ocean views make Thila the relaxed and vibrant heart of island life on COMO Maalifushi. 

Pizza Cabana is open daily from 12pm to 6pm.

Cancellation policy: Bookings cancelled less than 24 hours before the start time will incur cancellation charges equal to 50 per cent of the total cost. Bookings cancelled less than six hours before start time will incur cancellation charges equal to 100 per cent of the total cost.

Splash Net Cruise and Dolphin Watching

Try a sunset cruise with a twist, as we set off in search of dolphin pods migrating through the Thaa Atoll. Once in the open water you can hop onto our dhoni’s splash net and experience the thrill of being towed safely through the ocean. As the sun sets, you can indulge in a glass of wine or beer, and freshly prepared canapés.

Light Tackle and Fly Fishing

We have fishing options to the north and south of COMO Maalifushi, available from January to April. There are expansive, unspoilt flats at both sites, as well as a drop off where trevally and red snapper can be picked up with light tackle.

Reef Propagation

In 1998 and 2016, the El Niño climate cycle resulted in particularly warm seas in the Indian Ocean, which bleached a large number of coral reefs surrounding COMO Maalifushi. While there is still a plethora of untouched reefs to snorkel and dive in the immediate area, it is important for the local economy that all the islands’ coral flourishes.

Our Resident Marine Biologist has teamed up with Seamarc — a marine consultancy company — to plant new coral frames on the seafloor, which encourage new reefs to grow and prosper. Guests at COMO Maalifushi can sponsor one of these frames, and track its progress via twice yearly photographic updates as well as complimentary guided dives every time they visit the resort.

Coral frame sponsorship is priced at US$150 for a single frame, US$300 for a couple frame and US$500 for a family frame.

Whale Shark Night Snorkel

Our boat will take you from the resort to find the largest fish in the sea, where you can choose to join them under the waves or simply watch them from the deck. The Maldives’ clear waters allow for an aquarium-like view of the gentle giants.

Prices are subject to 10 per cent service charge and prevailing government taxes. We take a maximum of six people snorkelling and six people observing on any trip. The minimum age of observers is six years old; to snorkel, you must be aged over 12. Take the chance to get up close with whale sharks– the largest fish in the sea. You can watch them from the deck of a boat, or for the more adventurous, join them under the waves. Once signed up, we will call you when there has been a whale shark sighting – anytime between 6.00pm and 10.00pm – and our boat will sail you 20 minutes north. The Maldives’ clear waters allow for an aquarium-like view of these gentle giants. The whale sharks usually ignore the snorkellers while feeding, swimming majestically and slowly around you.

Snorkelling with the whale sharks is priced at US$250 per person. Observing them from the boat costs US$150 per person. The excursions takes around two hours and is only available from the end of November 2017 until the end of April 2018. We provide towels, snorkelling gear, wetsuits and drinking water. Please bring your swimwear, and a camera if you wish to take photos (you can also rent underwater cameras from the Marine Sports Centre). Professional photos and videos are available for an additional cost.

The sheer abundance of marine life and clear visibility makes Thaa Atoll one of the greatest underwater regions on the planet. While around 25 sites in the Thaa Atoll are already chronicled, there are numerous unexplored channels and reefs, with the waters offering something for divers of all abilities. All divers are required to hold an International SCUBA diving license, which you will be asked to provide together with your logbook. COMO Maalifushi offers a range of PADI courses for those looking to earn their diving license. COMO Shambhala Retreat at COMO Maalifushi is the embodiment of a philosophy for healthy living that COMO Shambhala has successfully refined at its award-winning retreats all over the world. The COMO Shambhala experience combines Asian-based therapies, nutrition, exercise and yoga with a results-driven agenda managed by experts in holistic health. 

ADMISSION

All COMO Maalifushi guests aged 16 and older have complimentary use of the gym, locker room facilities, steam room, Jacuzzi and sauna.

RESERVATIONS

Reservations can be made at the COMO Shambhala reception or by dialling COMO Shambhala on your in-room telephone. If calling from outside the hotel, We suggest that you schedule your appointments in advance to obtain your preferred time.

All in-room massages during opening hours incur an additional charge of US$75. Should you wish to schedule a massage outside of our usual hours, please contact the COMO Shambhala team at least 24 hours in advance.An additional charge of US$110 applies to appointments made outside of our usual hours.

ARRIVAL

We recommend that you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment time in order to relax and enjoy our facilities. Arriving late will limit the time of your treatment. For your first visit to COMO Shambhala, you will be asked to complete a brief, confidential consultation card. This is to check for possible contra indications to any treatments.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Should you wish to cancel an appointment, please let us know at least four hours beforehand or a full cancellation fee will be charged. No-shows will also be charged at the full treatment price.

VALUABLES

While locker facilities are provided, we advise you not to bring any valuables during your visit. COMO Shambhala accepts no responsibility for the loss of money or valuables of any kind.

GRATUITIES

In appreciation of outstanding service, gratuities for staff may be left at your discretion. For your convenience, gratuities may be charged directly to your room.

At COMO Shambhala Retreat at COMO Maalifushi, we offer all the pampering beauty care treatments that might be required for a week on the beach. Our nail care system uses products filled with naturally hydrating properties for soft and silky hands and feet.

Manicure

We offer traditional manicure including nail shaping and cuticle work. Signature scrubs and lotions are used to exfoliate and massage your hands and arms. The manicure is completed with the application of a colour of your choice.

Pedicure

Feet will feel light after this foot soak, scrub, cuticle work and nail shape. A massage and mask leave the feet feeling refreshed. The pedicure is completed with the application of a colour of your choice.

Waxing

We use a premium wax to prevent hair breakages, ingrown hairs, redness and the associated painful sting, leaving your skin soft and smooth with no sticky residue. Half-leg, full leg, bikini wax an underarm waxing is all available.
